Trees, like all living things, need care. We will tell you in detail what tree care at our company includes, what we will pay attention to first and how we will keep the plants healthy on your property.

Trees are the most valuable part of our landscape. With their help, we plant hedges, gardens, and alleys. It is difficult to imagine a yard without trees and shrubs, but we must not forget that a tree, like any plant, needs care for average growth and development. If we are talking about a fruit tree, the maintenance will have a beneficial effect on increasing the harvest and taste of berries and fruits.

How to Properly Care for Trees?

Tree care is not that difficult, but it has to be done all the time. Therefore, if you are short of time or have to go away for quite a long time, we recommend contacting a professional arborist. In this case, you can be sure that your trees will receive professional quality care.

What does tree care involve?

Choosing the Right Tree

This step can be called the most important. After all, if you choose to plant an utterly unsuitable seedling for your climate, then no care, even the highest quality, will not provide it with average growth and development.

Find out which trees are common in your climate and which ones it is exceptionally favorable. Choose a species well adapted to the site’s specific soil, light, and space conditions. Or contact us for a free consultation on which tree is best suited for your property.

Watering

Proper watering is essential in tree care. Lack of water leads to the tree dying, making it weak and vulnerable to insect pests and fungal diseases. The amount of water needed for watering depends on the specific tree species, its size, and the type of soil.

Watering should be done in the morning or evening, even during rainy seasons. However, watering the soil under the tree can result in a lack of oxygen to saturate the tree’s root system, which can cause the leaves to fall off and the roots not only suffer greatly but even die. During periods of drought and high daytime temperatures, spraying the ground part of the tree with water is beneficial.

Weed Control

Weeds should not be allowed to grow near tree trunks, especially young ones, as they create a favorable environment for developing diseases and attract various pests.

Weeds should be destroyed mechanically, without using chemicals, as this can lead to the tree’s death. It is also recommended to loosen the soil around the trunk to saturate the soil with oxygen.

Fertilizing

Fertilizing trees creates favorable conditions for developing the tree’s root system and increasing its harvest. Fertilizer applied in liquid form has a faster effect on the plants, so fertilizer granules are best dissolved in water.

The amount of fertilizer and frequency of fertilization depends on the species and condition of the tree. Please contact us for free professional advice if you doubt fertilizer choice or dosage.

Pruning

Tree surgery techniques include the removal of broken, dead, or diseased branches, cutting back limbs that are in the way of traffic, obstructing power and telephone lines, blocking views, or changing the shape of a tree, and thinning branches to allow air circulation and secure more light. Crown pruning is one of the most complex tree surgery and care procedures. It is necessary for proper crown formation to create the most favorable growth conditions and regulate fruiting, as well as for better light penetration through the leaves and branches.

It is now known that it is not a good idea to chop off a branch such that its base is flush with the limb. Instead, professionals advise you to prune the branch base just above the collar or swelling, which is a protective callus. Trim any ragged bark near the incision’s border with care. After you cut the branch, you can apply pruning paint, also known as dressing. It is not mandatory, and the tree can survive without it, but you can apply it for aesthetic purposes.

Be careful during the process because ineffective pruning can weaken the plant, make it more susceptible to disease and insect damage, and result in the loss of flowers and fruits. It can also lead to lower yields, reduced frost resistance, individual branches’ death, and appearance deterioration. Therefore, the best solution is to entrust the pruning of your trees to professionals

Roots

Carefully protect the roots from damage. Make sure that no cars or, even more so, heavy vehicles drive over them. It will compact the soil, reduce oxygen penetration, and can lead to the death of the roots.

Also, try not to change the soil composition around the tree without previously consulting a specialist. Doing it can damage the root system and make the tree more vulnerable to adverse external factors such as storms or hurricanes.

Pests

The main pests of trees are both rodents and insects. Rodents cause mechanical damage to trees, while insects attack the crown, branches, fruits, and leaves. As a result of the damage done, trees become more susceptible to disease, dry up, and die.

Three methods of pest and disease control are used – mechanical, chemical, and biological. The computerized method includes pruning damaged areas, manual collection of pests, and making traps.

The biological method is based on involving the natural enemies of insects – birds. For this purpose, feeders are hung on trees to attract them.

The chemical method consists of pesticide treatment of trees and is the last resort when other methods have failed.
